First Alert Forecast+: Heat continues intensifying into next week

The heat will continue to build as we head through the next several days, ultimately peaking on Wednesday when the heat and humidity will combine for dangerous heat indices across much of North Georgia. Overnight temperatures will offer little to no relief as morning lows will also hover in the low-to-mid 70s through midweek.

The worst of the heat is centered on Wednesday, and we’ve declared a First Alert Weather Day for the possibility of heat indices approaching or exceeding 105 degrees. The highest likelihood of dangerous heat will be in the metro and spreading northeast up towards Lake Lanier and over into the Athens area.

There could be a few isolated storms Wednesday afternoon, but a return to a more “traditional” summer pattern looks to occur by the end of the week. If the models hold, this could mean an end to the extreme heat, and a return to a more typical summertime pattern with temperatures slightly above average with pop-up showers and storms back in the forecast.
