2:06Now PlayingThe City of College Park is honoring its original Black community in the Six West District with the installation of historic markers.
The markers recognize key sites including the Wayman and Bessie Brady Recreation Center, which was the only rec center for Black residents during segregation, the College View Cemetery and the One Square Mile, which was once a thriving Black business district before residents were displaced.
"If you don't know where you came from, it's kind of difficult to decide where you're going," said Councilwoman Dr. Jamelle McKenzie. More markers are planned.
