2:28Now PlayingDeKalb County has begun major renovations to Intrenchment Creek Park, which has been closed since 2023 following protests over a nearby police training center.
Construction on the first phase began May 18 and is expected to finish by Labor Day, with improvements to trails, a dedicated radio-controlled airfield and additional parking.
Phase two, which the county just received the right to name Michelle Obama Park, will bring a splash pad, playground and athletic facilities. Some residents have raised concerns about tree removal and trail materials.
