1:17Now PlayingAtlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has signed an executive order placing a 180-day moratorium on new self-storage facilities in the city.
Dickens says the developments don't align with his plan to revitalize historically underserved neighborhoods, where he says land should be used for housing, grocery stores, jobs and gathering spaces. The moratorium will not affect existing facilities.
Companion legislation from District 9 Councilman Dustin Hillis would also require a special use permit for any new self-storage projects going forward.
