3:25Now PlayingFor the first time ever, all of Georgia's more than 11,000 girls flag football players will be required to wear protective headgear this fall.
The GHSA mandate requires five-star rated headgear from the Virginia Tech Helmet Lab, the same facility that rates NFL helmets. Research shows nearly one in four flag football injuries among female players involves the head, face or neck.
The sport also makes its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
