1:20Now PlayingDerrick Moore, a 47-year-old health and physical education teacher at Rockbridge Elementary School in DeKalb County, died Friday evening after jumping into a rip current off Myrtle Beach to save a young girl in distress. Moore had never met the girl before entering the water. His body was recovered the following morning, nearly a mile from where he went in, according to Myrtle Beach police. The girl survived. Moore's family, colleagues and community are remembering him as selfless and dedicated. DeKalb County Schools said counselors are available at both schools where Moore worked.
