Gwinnett County man granted $100K bond after 2003 child murder conviction vacated

Danyel Smith, who has spent more than 24 years in prison for the death of his infant son, was granted a $100,000 bond Tuesday after his 2003 murder conviction was vacated. A judge ruled last month that new medical evidence, unavailable at the time of his trial, suggests the child may have died of natural causes. Smith is expected to be released within days under home confinement as he prepares for a new trial to clear his name.
