Maya's story was told in the popular Netflix doc , "Take Care of Maya". The civil trial in the case brought by the Kowalski family against Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in Sarasota County, Florida, commenced on September 21, 2023, and involved alleged false reporting of CA to DCF by hospital personnel, stripping of parental rights regarding their child's medical care and treatment, medical malpractice, abuse of process and civil rights violations, among other causes of action.

After a 2 month trial, in November 2023, the Florida jury returned a verdict in excess of $261 million.

THEN, Attorneys for Defendant JHACH filed a Motion for a New Trial on Thanksgiving Eve alleging misconduct by Juror No. 1 (you may remember their Motion to Disqualify said juror prior to deliberations was denied) whom they claim MUST have discussed the case with his WIFE ("household companion") because she watched YouTube coverage of the trial, and commented, and superchatted....and it only gets deeper from there. BUT, while JHACH was very careful in protecting its own "confidential information" in filing the Affidavit of Angela Green and Motion for Clarification UNDER SEAL with the Clerk of the Court , i.e. locked and inaccessible to the public, it was not so careful in protecting the identity of Juror No. 1 and his wife, publishing their names and address in said Motion, for public consumption. In addition, Defendant requests the Judge grant it an interview with said Juror AND HIS WIFE, as well as access to their text messages, internet history, social media posts, and other forms of electronic data pertaining to the trial on an emergency basis.

More shenanigans ensued, including Defense counsel pulling legal theories from Reddit threads.

Nearly 2 years later, a Florida Appellate Court has reversed the trial court on several counts, and returns the case back to the trial court for a new trial on the few remaining counts.
