Army veteran and former Austin police officer Tammy Barrett describes her new home as a symbol of independence and freedom during an event where community members wrote notes of love on the studs of its frame on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. The home was given to her through several organizations including Operation Finally Home, a non-profit organization dedicated to building mortgage-free homes for wounded, ill or injured veterans and their families. Barrett became paralyzed last year in an ATV accident. Now, she can comfortably live in her new space as she recovers and enters the next phase in her life.
