3:41Now PlayingGov. Greg Abbott made the announcement that a state-owned tract would be designated for people experiencing homelessness in November 2019. Abbott created the camp near Montopolis Drive and U.S. 183 after he ordered state transportation authorities to remove encampments from under overpasses. In February, the Texas Transportation Commission approved a $1-a-month lease agreement with ATX Helps. The nonprofit planned to purchase a Sprung tent to house between 150-300 people. The camp now has over 120 people living there.
