Fielding questions from prosector Rusty Hardin, Maxwell says he believed former Austin real estate developer and Paxton campaign donor Nate Paul inappropriately requested an investigation by the office into law enforcement agencies probing his businesses, World Class Holdings.
During testimony, Maxwell, a longtime Texas ranger, outlined several meetings with Paul as well as follow ups with Paxton. Maxwell added that Paxton threatened to fire him and that he was let go by the attorney general's office a month after being placed on "investigative leave."
