A fire in West Texas became the second-largest fire in Texas history as of Feb. 28, 2024. By that date, the Smokehouse Creek Fire had grown to 850,000 acres in the Texas Panhandle, with several new fires popping up in the region, too.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has upgraded the Texas State Emergency Operations Center readiness level and allowed more resources to be deployed to the impacted areas.

Our video shows what these residents saw as the fire burned and caused damage in Texas.
