President Donald Trump suggesting doing away with FEMA during a press conference in Los Angeles on Jan. 24.

After touring damage caused by the LA fires, Trump "youd on't need FEMA, you need a good state government," suggesting federal money could be given to state agencies to better respond to disasters instead of a federal one.

"It is a very expensive and mostly failed situation," Trump added.

But Rep. Brad Sherman defending the model, saying going to state-only approach would place an undue burden on small states. Trump and Sherman openly argued during the press conference event over the concept.
