A law enforcement official later confirmed to the USA TODAY Network that the suspect's name is Wess Roley. Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris said Roley intentionally started a fire before the shooting, calling it "a total ambush." Norris confirmed this at a later press conference.
Roley's body was later found on Canfield Mountain, a popular hiking and biking destination outside the city of Coeur d’Alene. Norris could not confirm how he died.
