0:45Now PlayingAustin LBJ senior Andres Vega is heading home after a heart transplant and three months of recovery at Dell Children’s Medical Center.
Vega, a student football trainer, was born with a rare congenital heart defect. After his health declined last year, doctors said he needed a new heart. A donor heart arrived March 1, but complications after surgery placed him on life support.
On Friday, family, teammates and his care team lined the hallway to surprise him with an honorary graduation walk.
Vega said he’s excited to start life free of pain — and walk at LBJ’s official graduation in June.
