Tony Scott directs, while the supporting cast features Kelly McGillis, Tim Robbins, Tom Skeritt, Anthony Edwards, Michael Ironside and Meg Ryan. The soundtrack makes judicious use of Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone.
Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film has exceeded all box office predictions in the United States to become the summer's biggest hit. Tom Brook reports from the United States to see why this film - produced with the cooperation of the Pentagon and the blessing of the US Navy - has struck such a chord with moviegoers.
