When Daily Politics presenter Andrew Neil asked "you knew nothing about this?", the MP, who was Conservative Party Chairman in the election campaign, said: "No." He added: “I was co-chairman but compliance wasn’t my side of things. The campaigning side was my side, but not the money and the finance.”
When asked who was responsible, he replied: "Other people, I don’t want to go into more detail." The party has admitted failing to declare £38,000 of general election expenses for accommodation costs, blaming an "administrative error".
