7:08Now PlayingAll four nations in the United Kingdom are trying to agree on a common approach to the Christmas period and the restrictions that might be needed to control the coronavirus pandemic.
Public Health England are working on a plan that may allow families to celebrate together, in ways “as close to normal as possible”.
But that will depend on rates of infection falling in the coming weeks - and any relaxation of the rules would come at a price.
Experts say that for every day of relaxed measures there would be need to be five days of tighter restrictions to compensate.
Meanwhile there’s more encouraging news about one possible coronavirus vaccine, developed by Pfizer and BioNTech. Final trials show it is 95% effective in older adults.
