6:33Now PlayingThe Brexit trade talks are continuing beyond an agreed deadline of Sunday 13th December - after the UK and the EU agreed their negotiators should “go the extra mile” in search of a deal.
Major issues are still unresolved but in a telephone call, Boris Johnson and the EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen agreed to continue the negoatiations, without setting a new deadline.
However Mr Johnson said the two sides were still “very far apart” on key issues.
Business leaders have again called on Boris Johnson to rule out a no trade deal departure from the EU, saying it would be “catastrophic” for employment, supermarket supply chains and farming.
Mishal Husain presents BBC News at Ten reporting by political correspondent Iain Watson, Europe editor Katya Adler and business editor Simon Jack.
