Hundreds of people had arrived at the site in Sitakunda to tackle the fire when a number of shipping containers exploded.
At least 49 people were killed, while Chittagong's chief doctor has said more than 300 people were injured in total.
Bangladesh's government has promised a fair investigation into the cause of the fire.
