The fake threats were made in battleground states - Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania - as Election Day voting was underway, the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) said.
The FBI has said the hoax bomb threats seemed to originate from a Russian source.
