The European football confederation UEFA has said it has no confidence in him, and is threatening legal action. The football associations of Wales, Finland, Sweden and Serbia have withdrawn their support for his re-election as president, and England's football association is set to follow suit.
The BBC's sports reporter Joe Lynskey tells us how Mr Infantino has won favour with football authorities over his decade running Fifa - and what it will take for him to hang on now.
We also hear about Infantino's close relationship with US President Donald Trump, whose extended family was linked to Fifa's partial privatisation plans. The main investor was due to be Joshua Kushner, whose brother Jared Kushner is President Trump's son-in-law.
