The settlements are illegal under international law and the UK's move comes as Israel opens tenders for 1,200 new homes in the occupied territory.
US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee said the US opposes the UK imposing sanctions, and he told the BBC that US states could retaliate against the UK.
