In an interview with the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg, Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has urged for a "step-change" in the speed of UK rearmament and said that selling government war bonds would show the UK was serious about defence spending.

He said he was "relieved" US President Donald Trump had "backed down" on his comments about UK soldiers in Afghanistan but added that he still believed the US was "no longer a reliable ally on the economy or on defence" while the president remained in the White House.
