as posted by the channelDr Mary-Ann Stephenson, chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, has said people unhappy with the definition of sex as ruled by the Supreme Court last year, need to “lobby to change the Equality Act”.
Speaking to Nick Robinson, Dr Stephenson said there is “complexity” within the issue, but for the purposes of the Act: “sex is defined by biological sex”.
She also said the Commission has tried to “uphold the rights of both women and trans people” within its code of practice, but some women “do really value single-sex spaces” and “the law in this area is very clear”.
Dr Stephenson also spoke about the right to protest, and the controversial slogan "from the river to the sea".
She added: “people have the right to freedom of expression” and that may include “the expression of views that people find offensive… but there is a limit to that”.
