“Write an excuse for school and let them watch. There's so much school to go to, but the World Cup is every four years," the England boss said.
On BBC Two's Politics Live, Alex Forsyth and guests discussed whether children should be allowed to skip school in order to watch the encounter.
Conservative MP Greg Stafford said “school is important” and there should not be “excuses not to go to school” while Labour MP Laura Kyrke-Smith said that “as a parent” she will be “forgiving of bleary-eyed teachers and bleary-eyed children”.
Journalist Andrew Fisher said that employers and teachers “should always be flexible” as that is good for “morale”.
