YouTube Description
as posted by the channelđą Ask Dr. Bikmanâs Digital Mind
In response to a question about elevated triglycerides during intermittent fasting and while on a low-carb diet, Dr. Ben Bikman explains that triglycerides are carried by lipoproteins like VLDL and LDL from the liver. One possible reason for increased triglycerides, even on a low-carb diet, is active weight loss.
During weight loss, the liver produces more triglycerides to supply fat as fuel to the muscles, which is a known and expected phenomenon referred to as âtransient hypercholesterolemia of weight loss.â This rise in triglycerides is not a concern, as it typically continues until weight loss stabilizes.
Additionally, HDL (the âgoodâ cholesterol) tends to increase as well, often leading to a favorable overall change in lipid levels.
