President Trump just ordered a full U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after 21 hours of peace talks with Iran collapsed in Islamabad, Pakistan. Vice President Vance said Iran refused to commit on its nuclear program — the one issue that really mattered. Within hours, Trump declared the blockade effective immediately and ordered the Navy to interdict any vessel that paid Iran a toll for passage.
Two Navy destroyers — USS Frank E. Petersen and USS Michael Murphy — have already transited the Strait and begun mine-clearing operations. Admiral Brad Cooper says CENTCOM is establishing a new safe passage corridor for commercial shipping. Underwater drones are deploying. All 28 of Iran's mine-laying ships have been sunk. And up to three carrier strike groups — Lincoln, Ford, and Bush — could converge in CENTCOM's area of operations this week.
