Chinese influence operations have reportedly used fake American personas, artificial intelligence, inflammatory political content, and existing social divisions to undermine trust in U.S. elections and democratic institutions.
We will also follow the money behind organized protest movements. Congressional investigators have examined whether networks associated with Shanghai-based businessman Neville Roy Singham helped fund organizations involved in American civil unrest and whether any activity should be investigated under foreign-agent laws. These are serious allegations under investigation—not proof that every person attending a protest was individually paid.
From a national-security standpoint, this is influence warfare. The objective may not simply be to elect one candidate. It may be to deepen civil disorder, destroy confidence in elections, and leave Americans too divided to confront China’s growing power.
