17:20Now PlayingFred chats with Delaware At-Large Representative and candidate for Senate Lisa Blunt Rochester. Rep. Rochester was first elected to Congress from Delaware in 2016, becoming the first woman and the first person of color to represent the First State in Congress. Prior to entering Congress, she had a distinguished career in public service and state government – beginning as an intern in the office of then-Congressman Tom Carper and working her way up to be Secretary of Labor and later Director of State Personnel. After leaving the state government, she became the CEO of the Metropolitan Urban League in Wilmington. She is again serving as a National Co-Chair for the president’s 2024 reelection campaign. In June 2023, Blunt Rochester announced her candidacy for the United States Senate to fill the seat vacated by Senator Tom Carper’s upcoming retirement. She entered the race with Senator Carper’s enthusiastic endorsement, and, if elected, will become the fourth Black woman in American history to serve in the U.S. Senate.
