Now over nine months after Hurricane Helene the Blue Ridge Parkway remains closed and two rural hospitals are in the crosshairs from the Big Ugly Bill. He doesn’t care. He’s got a strong opponent already. Colonel (Retired) Moe Davis is a native son of Western NC, where his family has lived since before the Revolutionary War, Moe has spent his life fighting for fairness and accountability. From a childhood in small-town North Carolina to a 25-year career in the U.S. Air Force. Now, he’s ready to serve again, this time in Congress. Moe attended Appalachian State University, where he majored in criminal justice. After attending law school at North Carolina Central University, where he earned his degree and passed the bar in 1983. He followed his father’s footsteps into the military. Over the next 25 years, Colonel Davis served in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps, rising to become the Chief Prosecutor at Guantanamo Bay. When a new general ordered the use of waterboarding evidence, Moe resigned rather than compromise his principles. That moment cemented his reputation as a straight shooter willing to risk his career to do the right thing. After retiring from the military, Moe continued serving. He worked at the Congressional Research Service, led a national nonprofit focused on war crimes accountability, taught law at Howard University, and served as a federal administrative law judge with the Department of Labor.
