13:42Now PlayingMayor Mamdani will deliver a major address to commemorate America 250, reflecting on NYC’s role in our nation's history.
Drawing on Mayor Mamdani's own family immigration to New York, the speech presents America as an unfinished project whose greatest strength lies not in military or economic power, but in the belief that our greatest resource are everyday Americans who fight and organize to bring America closer to its promises of liberty, equality and democracy.
He will argue that the American story has always been one of contradiction, and trace the experiences of Indigenous people, enslaved Africans, immigrants and generations of Americans who arrived seeking freedom and opportunity.
The speech will be delivered at George Washington’s desk -- which is older than the Resolute Desk and the Mayor will be surrounded by recently-naturalized citizens which comes amidst national backdrop of anti-immigrant sentiments and policies coming out of White House.
