YouTube Description
as posted by the channelSpilling coffee on your shirt. Forgetting a name seconds after hearing it. Being met with silence after speaking up. These awkward moments can feel excruciating, but their impact is often far smaller than we imagine. When it comes to personal growth, author Oliver Burkeman suggests that leaning into discomfort isn’t just harmless — it can be surprisingly illuminating.
In this video lesson, he explains how the unease that makes us hesitate might be a signal we’re on our way toward growth and discovery.
It’s normal for change to feel awkward. But a sense of awkwardness can be an invitation to explore something important that makes us feel vulnerable.
Once you’ve identified an area for growth, try working in tiny increments. Ask yourself: What version of this am I willing to do?
Experiment with gradually lowering the boundary. For example, you could speak to a small room of people rather than an audience of 1,000. There’s almost always a level at which you’re willing to get started.
Doing things wrong is part of the process. Failing and starting again is where growth happens.
