1:18Now PlayingA small tent sits in the churchyard of the iconic Trinity Church in lower Manhattan, just blocks from the site of the 9/11 memorial.
In it lies powerful symbols of the ongoing despair and destruction in Syria, fruits of a violent civil war that has ground-on since the Arab Spring in 2011.
Issam Kourbaj, a Syrian-born artist, is the creator of this installation, called "Another Day Lost.” Inside the tent is small camp Kourjab has constructed from "waste materials, such as medicine packaging and discarded books" according to his website.
Kourjab says he was inspired to create this bleak scene after viewing aerial images of the vast refugees camps created to house more than 10 million Syrians who have been uprooted from their homes due to the carnage.
The "camps" are surrounded by "fence" made of burnt match ends, each of which represents a day among the the more than 1,700 that have passed since the bloody conflict began.
“There is the lighting of the match, and the extinguishing of the match is like the sunset," explained Kourjab, speaking to the New York Times.
Kourjab declined to speak to TheBlaze for this article.
