HOW LONG Did Buttigieg Wait to Tweet Concern for Ohio Train Derailment? | The News & Why It Matters

It’s been 11 days since 50 train cars derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, and we still don’t have any answers from the U.S. government. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spoke yesterday at the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., and you’d think the biggest topic of the day would be the accident, but it was not. Instead of assuaging the fears of thousands, he ranted about “white construction workers.” The Maryland House and Senate have a bill in the legislature that would require the Medical Assistance program to pay for all sex reassignment treatments for those using Medicaid. In a recent email sent to staff, Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine stated their support for a Maryland bill that would expand the types of "medically necessary gender-affirming treatments" covered by the state’s Medicaid program, including puberty blockers for children. Gen Z is not only staying home longer, but it is also not getting driver's licenses. A new report from the Washington Post claims that far fewer people born between late 1996 and 2012 are getting their licenses than those born in previous generations. WaPo is citing fear, anxiety, finances, and even environmental concerns as factors contributing to the decrease in driver’s license acquisition. Unvaccinated New York City teachers are outraged with their former school district. It has been reported that their fingerprints were sent to the FBI with “problem code” flags. They are fed up with the mistreatment and have filed a lawsuit against their former city employer. John Bursch, who is representing the teachers, said the teachers who refused the shot now have a “flag on their file” which will impact their ability to get another job. We now officially have two Republicans who have jumped into the ring to unseat President Biden. Nikki Haley announced she is running for president, and she is already on the attack.
