1:30Now PlayingThe 75 feet-tall silo mural in Melbourne shows New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern hugging a Muslim woman after the Christchurch mosque shooting.
"The idea to paint the silo came from a group of people who live here within the commons. And after the Christchurch shooting, they were just brainstorming what they could do to help the community feel safer and more loved and welcomed."
More than $11,000 was raised in just one day through a crowdfunding campaign.
"The community response around this project has just been phenomenal. I was having people come up to me with tears in their eyes just hugging me. And I think the effort is what really means a lot to some people."
But not everybody is happy with the mural.
"15,000 people signed a petition against this artwork being created. It just goes to show that a lot more needs to be done in regards to acceptance of other people for who they are. And that just pushed us even more to want to complete this project."
