12:27Now PlayingThousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Hong Kong for the second time in less than a week, blocking roads around the legislature as lawmakers were due to begin days of debate on a controversial extradition law.
Police used tear gas and fired rubber bullets as they clashed with protesters in echoes of 2014, when pro-democracy demonstrations brought the city center to a halt and violence eventually erupted.
The government postponed the planned debate on extradition and told protesters to go home, but crowd numbers swelled. Police branded the demonstration a “riot situation.”
