The session was attended by Brazil's environmental minister Ricardo Salles, Antonio Carlos Magalh?es Neto, Mayor of Salvador, and Martin Frick, Senior Director of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Booing protesters virtually drowned out Salles' speech during which one activist held a placard reading: "don't you get tired of your own lies?"
The minister and the government of far-right president Jair Bolsonaro, are under pressure to comply with Brazil's pledge to fight global warming.
Bolsonaro, a far-right climate skeptic, has made clear he intends to make major changes to Brazil's environmental policy, including opening the globally vital Amazon rainforest to development and agribusiness.
