"I remember Beijing being liberated on the second day of the Lunar New Year. We had nothing to eat on New Year's Eve," says the Beijing resident.
She joined the state-owned circus and was chosen to perform for the 10th anniversary of the Republic's founding
"We passed the Tiananmen Gate, which was on the north side of us, facing the south. Chairman Mao and other leaders were standing there to watch the parade," she continued.
But the Cultural Revolution saw the circus disbanded.
"At that time, we suffered pressure both mentally and financially," Cui said.
The cultural revolution saw factional battles, mass rallies and the exile of educated youths to the countryside
But China's leaders will be want people to the future not the past
