1:01Now PlayingRiot Games Inc. says those participating in the upcoming League of Legends World Championships shouldn’t talk about sensitive topics on its broadcasts.
“We serve fans from many different countries and cultures, and we believe this opportunity comes with a responsibility to keep personal views on sensitive issues (political, religious, or otherwise) separate,” John Needham, the firm’s global head of the hit esports game, said in a statement posted on Twitter.
Needham said Riot’s decision reflects the fact that the company has employees and fans in regions where there “has been (or there is risk of) political and/or social unrest, including places like Hong Kong.”
Activision Blizzard Inc. earlier reduced the punishment it meted out to a tournament player who voiced support for Hong Kong’s pro-democracy demonstrators.
