The airline insists cracks don't immediately compromise the safety of an aircraft, but Australia's aircraft engineers' union, the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers' Association, has called on the company to ground its whole fleet of Boeing 737 800s.
The union's federal secretary said the cracks were found in a part called a pickle fork, which is located in the landing gear bay.
However, Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority says there's no reason for Qantas to ground its fleet at this stage because the planes found with issues have been taken out of service to be checked and repaired.
