1:21Now PlayingTens of thousands of people rallied in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square on Tuesday, November 1, during what were reported to be the largest anti-government demonstrations since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003.
The protests, which express the Iraqi public’s anger over unemployment, government corruption, and a lack of basic services, were entering their second month on Tuesday and have been marked by violence.
Reuters reported on Tuesday that five people died from injuries sustained overnight in Tahrir Square.
On Monday, Amnesty International said that at least five protesters had been injured over five days by “previously unseen types” of tear-gas grenades used by Iraqi security forces.
A reported 250 people had been killed in the protests over October, reports said.
