Pelosi told reporters Thursday that while President Donald Trump says his call with Ukraine was "perfect," she thinks "it's perfectly wrong."
Bribery is an impeachable offense spelled out in the constitution.
The House opened public hearings this week in the impeachment inquiry. It revolves around Trump asking the Ukraine president for a "favor." He wanted an investigation of Democrats and 2020 rival Joe Biden - all while withholding military aid.
Democrats are moving away from describing Trump's actions with the Latin "quid pro quo." They're using a more simple argument as they try to win over public opinion.
Both Democrats and Republicans are hardening their message to sway voters, who are deeply entrenched into two camps, yet skeptical of taking the rare and dramatic step of removing the 45th president.
Republicans meanwhile pushed their position that the first witnesses yesterday said "nothing new," and relied entirely on secondhand knowledge.
Speaking to reporters moments after Pelosi, House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy asked: "Name me one thing that those witnesses said yesterday was impeachable. So why are we putting the country through this?"
Trump dismisses the proceedings as a "sham" and a "hoax," and the president denies the latest revelations indicate he was central to the action.
