Actress Rosanna Arquette said she burst into tears when she found out that Harvey Weinstein had been found guilty of rape and sexual assault. #HarveyWeinstein #HarveyWeinsteinGuilty

The actress said the verdict was a watershed moment in history.

Arquette, who has accused Weinstein of sexual abuse, said his conviction "shows people that you can't do this anymore".

"This is the beginning. It's a watershed moment," she said. "It's a seismic, seismic shift in our culture."

The Associated Press does not typically name alleged victims of sexual abuse, but Arquette has agreed to be identified.

Weinstein denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex. He was convicted on Monday of rape and sexual assault and faces up to 29 years behind bars when he's sentenced on March 11. Weinstein's lawyers said they would appeal.

The jury of seven men and five women took five days to find Weinstein guilty of raping an aspiring actress in a New York City hotel room in 2013 and sexually assaulting production assistant Mimi Haleyi at his apartment in 2006 by forcibly performing oral sex on her.

He was acquitted on the most serious charges, two counts of predatory sexual assault, each carrying a sentence of up to life in prison.

Weinstein was taken from the courthouse in an ambulance, strapped to a stretcher in his suit, in what was believed to be just a precautionary measure, and taken to a locked unit at Bellevue Hospital.

Arquette said she hoped Weinstein spent the rest of his life in prison.
