0:50Now PlayingAs the coronavirus outbreak grows globally, politicians, including U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and British PM Boris Johnson are taking extra steps to educate the public on washing their hands properly to avoid spreading the virus that leads to Covid-19. #BorisJohnson #AOC #Coronavirus #Covid19 #CoronavirusOutbreak #CoronavirusSymptoms
Johnson on Friday pledged a £46 million (approx. $59.8 million) government investment in science - which he hoped would contribute to the development of a coronavirus vaccine in a year's time.
The money would also be used to create rapid test kits that anyone can use, not just medical professionals, Johnson said during a tour of a virus research lab in Bedfordshire, southern England.
Johnson said it looked like the UK would face a "substantial period of disruption" over an unknown period of time due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The unveiling of the science investment came just days before Johnson's majority government is set to deliver its first budget.
