TRUMP WANTS U.S. TO REOPEN IN MAY
Trump’s top health advisers are prepping a plan to safely reopen the U.S. economy in phases starting in May and would “rely heavily” on public-health experts to make any changes.

Global cases of the coronavirus surpassed 1.5 million, less than a week after hitting the 1 million mark.
NEW YORK SUFFERS RECORD FATALITIES
New York suffered another day of record fatalities from the coronavirus outbreak, reporting 779 additional deaths even as hospitalizations declined. “The number of deaths will continue to rise as those hospitalized for a period of time pass away,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday at his daily virus briefing.
DEMOCRATS SEEK $500 BILLION IN NEXT STIMULUS
Democrats want $250 billion in small business aid, with $125 billion channeled through community-based financial institutions that serve farmers, family, women, minority and veteran-owned cos, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said in a joint statement.
BERNIE SANDERS ENDS 2020 BID
Joe Biden became the Democrats’ de facto presidential nominee to face Donald Trump in November after Bernie Sanders ended his presidential run on Wednesday. Biden will now have to find a way to take on Trump in the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic, which has made in-person campaigning impossible and has grabbed the public’s attention away from the 2020 race.
BORIS JOHNSON RESPONDING TO TREATMENT
U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is in a stable condition in intensive care and is “responding to treatment” for a severe coronavirus infection, his spokesman said. He has been receiving standard treatment with oxygen and has not needed a ventilator, the premier’s spokesman James Slack told reporters in London.
FAUCI SEES U.S. TURNAROUND
Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the start of a turnaround in the fight against the virus could come after this week.
SPAIN DEATHS SURGE
Spain said fatalities and new cases rose to the highest in four days, and Belgium had its deadliest day of the outbreak so far. U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is stable and responding to treatment.
