The iconic Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem's Old City and the Dome of the Rock were empty due to a ban on large gatherings.
In the West Bank city of Bethlehem, imam Raed Habib instead turned to the internet to reach out to believers.
Muslims now find themselves cut off from much of what makes the month special as authorities fight the pandemic.
Many countries have closed mosques and banned night prayers to prevent crowds.
