0:45Now PlayingHundreds of people in the Kasese district of western Uganda were left homeless after flash flooding swept away their homes on May 6, according to local news outlet PMLDaily.com.
Across western Uganda, the Nyamwamba, Mubuku, and Nyamugasani rivers burst their banks, and in Kilembe rescuers attempted to save an estimated 200 patients who were trapped in a hospital.
Uganda’s New Vision reported that the cause of the flooding was “torrential rains in various parts of the country, especially the Rwenzori, Elgon, Lake Victoria, and Kigezi regions.”
Multiple videos uploaded by the Ugandan Red Cross Society show the rushing waters and aftermath of the flooding, with residents surveying the damage and water still remaining in residential areas.
In neighboring Kenya, the government has recorded 194 deaths from the flooding, the BBC reported.
