An aide to Vice President Mike Pence tested positive for coronavirus infection, delaying his departure for a trip to Iowa on Friday, according to people familiar with the matter -- the second person working at the executive residence to contract the virus this week.

Pence was delayed for more than an hour Friday morning as six staffers who had contact with the infected aide were removed from his plane, according to a senior administration official. They were asked to have themselves tested for infection and to go home, the official said. The infected aide was not aboard.

The Pence aide has not recently had direct contact with President Donald Trump, but the official declined to discuss the aide’s contact with the vice president.

Pence is scheduled to discuss the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on churches and on the food supply while in Iowa. The people familiar with the matter asked not to be identified because the positive test hasn’t been announced.

Earlier in the week, a member of the military who works on the White House grounds tested positive for the virus. Trump and Pence said Thursday that they are each now tested daily for the virus.
