The fires happened during the third night of violent protests over the death of George Floyd, a handcuffed black man who pleaded for air as a white police officer kneeled on his neck.
The troopers Friday morning were about two blocks away from the 3rd Precinct station that was burned the night before, an area that included multiple fires.
A police spokesman confirmed late Thursday that staff at the station had evacuated "in the interest of the safety of our personnel" shortly after 10 p.m. Livestream video showed the protesters entering the building, where fire alarms blared and sprinklers ran as blazes were set.
Behind the troopers, firefighters could be seen spraying water on a building. The troopers were holding batons and wearing riot gear, including bullet proof vests.
